Now I always feel a bit of pressure when I've got to draw 'real' people so to speak, as opposed to drawing famous people. I think it's because i want and need the likeness to be really good and the portraits Im often asked to draw are normally of loved ones so the artwork needs to be as spot on as i can get it.
Now, a big important part of helping me get a good drawing is how good the quality of the photo I'm given to draw from is. If you give me a blurred out of focus photo with the details of the face not clear, then I'm not going to get a great drawing out of it. Fortunately, I was given a good photo and was quite happy with how the drawing turned out.
A problem I find when drawing babies, is that if your not careful they can end up looking like a bald geriatric. The wrong line in the wrong place or wrong weight of line can alter the look of the drawing in seconds, so i tried to avoid this. I also shaded with a hard pencil for most of it, a 2H and a H mainly, to try to make the drawing lighter.
In the end i was quite happy with it and so was the client, which is always the main thing.
